Puerto Rico’s IAQ Experts Identify Indoor Asthma Triggers on Environmental XPRT

Bayamon, Puerto Rico, December 8th, 2014 -- According to figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 12 adults has asthma and 1 in 11 children suffers from the condition in the United States.  The CDC also reports that 9 people die from asthma each day and that the condition costs the country $56 billion each year.

Although there is no cure for asthma, the condition can be treated with medications and by avoiding asthma triggers.  Many of these triggers can be found in indoor environments and the indoor air quality (IAQ) professionals at Zimmetry Environmental have dedicated their resources to helping those in Puerto Rico and across the Caribbean to identify these indoor pollutants.

Some of the most common asthma triggers according to the CDC include:

·         Tobacco Smoke

·         Dust Mites

·         Outdoor Air Pollution

·         Cockroach Allergen

·         Pet Allergens

·         Mold

During an asthma attack, symptoms may include coughing, chest tightness, wheezing and trouble breathing. The attack happens in the body’s airways as the sides of the airways in the lungs swell causing the airways shrink. Less air gets in and out of the lungs and mucous that the body makes clogs up the airways even more.

“Understanding what asthma triggers are in a person’s home, school or work environment can make a huge difference in managing the condition,” said Harry Pena, President of Zimmetry Environmental.  “At Zimmetry, our indoor air quality professionals offer comprehensive asthma trigger testing services along with a wide range of other IAQ services.  This information can be critical to preventing and controlling this chronic condition.”
